 Natural Remedies for Hair Loss

Going bald?. Don't despair! Try some of these natural remedies.

Hair loss affects 40 million men worldwide, and whilst some are able to pass it off as a fact of life many others consider it to be such a blight on their lives that baldness, or the fear of it, has been identified as a contributing factor in some suicides.

Small wonder then that cures and remedies for hair loss have grown into a multi-billion dollar industry. Unfortunately, many "cures" are at best useless and at worst scams, designed only to relieve the sufferer from large sums of money.

But that doesn't mean that all is lost. Because despite the sneers of the medical establishment, there are some natural remedies for hair loss that have been shown to be at least as effective as some of the expensive medications. Better still they are almost or completely free. Best of all they are totally natural remedies. Hair loss need not be lost cause!

Watercress Juice.

Watercress juice has been used as a natural remedy against hair loss since ancient times. Best taken in a small glass at breakfast time, it also acts as an effective tonic when massaged into the hair and scalp.

Watercress has always been a traditional part of my family's diet, as it grows abundantly locally. My family do not suffer from baldness. My father died at the age of 81 with a full head of hair. I have two brothers and the three of us have full heads of hair. Make of that what you will! ( Incidently, watercress is one of the so-called super foods. A study by the university of Ulster has shown that eating watercress regularly can reduce D.N.A damage to white blood cells and therefore reduce the risk of developing cancer. Watercress is probably one of the most perfect foods nutritionally speaking, that you can eat. It is low in fat and had few calories and is packed with vitamins and minerals. It is also reputed to be an aphrodisiac, but as a long time watercress eater I refuse to comment!)

Here are some other well regarded natural remedies for hair loss.

Rosemary and Nettle
  • 7 tablespoons rosemary.
  • 7 tablespoons nettle.
  • Boil, cover with lid and simmer.
  • Allow to stand for 10 minutes , then strain off.
  • After washing and rinsing your hair, massage into the scalp.
  • Dab dry with towel, ( Do not use a hair dryer.)

Nettle and Burdock
  • 1 pinch nettle flower
  • 1 pinch sage blossom
  • 1 pinch burdock (using the entire plant)
  • 1 pinch bay leaf.
  • Place in 1 quart ( just over 1 litre) of water and allow to steep for 24 hours.
  • Strain, and massage into your hair after washing.
These are just a few of many natural remedies. Hair loss has been a source of concern to men since the dawn of history, but as we have seen, there are effective methods of treatment using only natural remedies. Hair loss can be helped, so don't give up!

Vital Hair Supplements To Restore Hair Loss

By Umesh Kumar M

hairloss,

If you are losing hair at a fast pace then chances are that your friends have recommended you to use hair supplements to prevent hair loss. This is mainly because a large number of people rely on the vitamins and mineral to treat baldness, instead of opting for a hair transplant surgery. If you have already tried the prescription drugs, without much result then the problem is deeper than what you see. Many times our body lacks the important nutrients and this takes a toll on our overall health and the hair loss is an indication that your body needs care.

If you look around, you will find a plethora of hair supplements available in the market to treat hair loss. There are several popular products and brands that bank on the minerals, vitamins and other herbal sources to restore hair loss. Although many balding individuals put their hopes on these alternative treatments, the question is - are hair supplements effective in treating baldness? If yes, what are the vital supplements that you must take to treat the condition?

When Do You Need Hair Supplements?

You shouldn't start taking supplements only because a friend or family member told you to do so. Instead, you should spend some time analyzing your condition and decide for yourself. If you are experiencing Alopecia Areata or Male Pattern Baldness then consuming hair supplements alone will not do any good. These conditions are usually caused by a combination of several other factors such as emotional stress, underlying illnesses, poor blood circulation, nutritional deficiencies, physical stress, post surgery, and hormonal imbalances.

These health conditions may often cause physical health, and that will ultimately deplete the vital nutrients from the body. Deficiency or a lack of sufficient nutrients may directly affect the growth of your hair follicles. If you are seeking supplements to improve the nutritional deficiencies inside your body then you must go for it. Here are some of the top supplements that you may take to prevent hair loss problems:

Vitamin B Complex:

This refers to the family of vitamin Bs and the sub vitamins that are responsible for maintaining the major body functions. It also plays an important role in promoting the growth and converting food to energy. Most of the B vitamins are known to have great effects on the health of your hair, and they are regarded as the best supplements to prevent baldness.

Vitamin A:

It is basically derived from a lipid soluble compound group which plays an important role in cell differentiation, and maintaining the healthy function of immune system. Vitamin A also acts as an effective antioxidant which aids in protecting the hair follicles from any free radical damage.

Vitamin E:

There are several benefits of Vitamin E which makes it imperative for you to pay attention to it. From prevention of blood clots to improving blood circulation, this supplement works like a fantastic primary antioxidant. Besides that, Vitamin E is also beneficial for the overall health of your skin and hair.

Omega 3 & 6:

Omega 3 & 6 are the two vital essential fatty acids required by the body to function properly. They are considered essential because the body cannot manufacture them, but they are very important for survival. Maintaining the right balance of these nutrients is important to regulate the various body functions and preserving the cell growth.

Amino Acids:

These are the essential acid groups required for sustaining life. This is primarily a principal building protein material that is required for maintenance, normal growth, and repair. There are over 20 different kinds of amino acids available in the body, out of which 8 are vital for adults. The essential amino acids for healthy hair growth are Cysteine and Methionine.

PABA:

PABA or para-aminobenzoic is an organic compound which is known to have healthy effects on the hair. Several reports say that PABA can aid in restoring grey hair problems, and also help in boosting hair growth. There are also some contradicting reports which say that PABA doesn't have much influence on hair.

MSM:

Known as a fabulous nutrient, MSM is basically a water soluble compound which is present in the fluids of all living organisms. The scientific studies have proved that MSM can prove to be highly beneficial for your hair. It is a fantastic source of sulphur, required for the creation of keratin, the primary components used for your hair fibers and nails.

Essential Minerals:

Some of the vital minerals that can help prevent hair loss are copper, selenium, zinc, iron, and silica. Besides supplementing your body with these vitamins, you should also consider taking these minerals to maintain the right balance and regrow your hair. However, before taking any vitamin and mineral supplements make sure you consult with your physician.

Hair Loss Supplements And Their Contribution To Hair Loss Treatment

By Michael Franchis
hairloss,

A regular hair cycle process involves an average of 50-150 falling hairs a day. This cycle is regarded as normal; in which 90% percent is in the stage of growing while the other 10% is resting. Hair regrowth has a normal cycle that can take an estimated period of 2-3 years. New hair grows after 3-4 months after the resting hairs have all fallen out.

Human hair is capable of experiencing this cycle if the hair follicles are healthy, solid, and consist of numbers to at least 150,000. This amount of hair is healthy enough to endure the hair loss treatment. In the end, the influence of age, volume of hair and cycle of hair growth determines the number of losing hairs per person.

The moment that the normal process of hair loss becomes excessive, then, it is time to initiate the necessary measures. A possible condition for this kind of situation can be linked to androgenic alopecia otherwise known as male pattern baldness. Considered to be genetic in origin, male pattern baldness is a trait that can progress to severe balding once it starts during the teenage years. A receding hairline and balding at the top of the head commonly characterizes the existence of male pattern baldness.

Considering this situation, multiple anti hair loss products and medications are now scattered throughout the market providing an effective treatment for the condition. Available in various forms and way of application, these products claim that the formulation and service they provide can avert or diminish the spreading of the balding process.

Hair loss supplements are a popular product line intended for hair balding. They are preferred by some people suffering from this condition as they contain natural ingredients that inhibit the balding process.

Examples of the natural ingredients combined with the formulation of natural hair thinning supplements include zinc, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, saw palmetto, grape seed extract, nettle and bay root, pygeum extract, lavender/bay essential oils and a lot more to mention. These ingredients are believed to be natural inhibitors of the DHT hormone, which is the primary cause of hair balding in men.

Viviscal, Hairomega, Nioxin, Procerin, HairTopia, Homosan Plus-2, Botanic Choice Vitamins, Hair Formula 37, Nexxus Vita Tress and Melanchor are some of the effective hair balding supplements that are medically-proven effective in treating hair thinning. Meditation is another natural remedy that can assist in hair loss treatment as it reduces stress and restores hormonal balance.

At this point in time that you had already known the functions of hair loss supplements in treating hair thinning, do you still want to know more? Well in that case, visit this anti hair balding treatment site. You can find in this site the effective solutions and products required to relieve the disorder.

Herbs and Spices That Help Prevent Hair Loss

By Dr Tyng Tan
hairloss,

Did you know that herbs and spices can also be used in preventing hair loss? This is why it could be right time for you to hit the kitchen first and try out these simple and natural solutions to avoid excessive hair shedding.

Back in the days when high-end medications are simply but a dream, people use herbs and spices to remedy the problem. For those of you today who may be fed up with modern medicine not working, it might be time to stick our noses to herbal solutions and treatments.

Oregano

Thanks to the thymo and carvacrol content in oregano, this particular herb can be used as a natural remedy to dandruff. It can also help untangle hair preventing breakage as you comb.

You simply prepare this by simmering half a cup of fresh oregano leaves to one cup water. Once it is cooled, pour it into a spray bottle for easier application. Aside from improving the strength of your hair this also encourages better shine.

Oregano may also have a tendency to dry hair out, but you can buffer this by adding vanilla extract.

Rosemary

You can use rosemary to aid in hair growth while slowing down or preventing hair thinning. All you need to do is boil rosemary leaves into a tea using water or apple cider vinegar. This is actually a method used in the Mediterranean region, and it can be used as a good hair wash that can prevent hair graying.

You can also use carrier oils like coconut, olive or jojoba, and infuse rosemary leaves and use it as a leave on hair oil.

Gingko Biloba

This particular herb is popular for improving blood circulation. As the blood flow in the scalp area improves, so does hair growth. This keeps the hair follicle strong as the blood feeds it with the necessary nutrients.

Sage

This herb can prevent baldness because it has properties that help in strengthening the hair. It is advised that you apply your hair with clary sage oil in between your shampoos to give you stronger hair. In addition to that, it might even darken the shade of graying strands.

Thym

Did you know that thyme actually contains the most iron among all the other herbs and spices? Just one tablespoon will already provide your hair with 5 grams of nutrients to keep it strong because of its healthy iron content. Aside from adding it to food thyme also does its anti-hair loss duties when it is massaged directly on the scalp.

Cedar

The essential oil that can be made out of this herb is useful because of its antiseptic action. You can regularly massage cedar oil infused with either almond or laurel oil to the scalp and let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing.

Saw Palmetto

This herb prevents hair loss because it found to disrupt the formation of DHT or dihydrotestosterone, the hormone responsible for hair loss. Men who suffer from mild to moderate baldness may benefit from this, however further studies needs to be made for this claim.

7 Strategies To Eating Healthier For Less Money

By Lori L. Shemek, Ph.D.
eat healtier,

Do you think that healthy foods are expensive? They can be if you do not have the right simple strategies in place!
Your overall goal is to buy inexpensive foods that still are nutrient dense and that support optimal health. So how do we do this?
Success in any endeavor starts with a plan. Before you go to the store, make out a list. Everything starts with a plan.
  • Make a list of what you need.
  • Do not go grocery shopping hungry.
  • Buy only what is on your list and then leave.
Strategy One:

Stop buying Junk: All processed foods, sugary sodas, snacks, white breads, and desserts etc. These items are expensive and create inflammation in the body which will eventually lead to health issues.
The key is to buy whole foods. Unprocessed foods are cheaper and more nutritious than processed foods. They also give you total control over the ingredients. Most anything that comes in a box should be avoided as it is likely processed.

Strategy Two:

Stop making meat the central focus of every meal. A couple of days a week look to beans, lentils, chick-peas, and eggs as the central high protein theme. These are generally inexpensive and considered super foods.

Other protein examples are: Lean ground turkey, frozen chicken breast, canned tuna, liver, cottage cheese, plain yogurt.

Strategy Three:

Chicken is the way to go for high quality protein and is often a bargain compared to other proteins. To save even more money, buy your chicken whole and then separate the chicken parts for future meals. Remember too, that chicken liver is very healthy and inexpensive.

Strategy Four:

Rethink canned tuna. Fresh and frozen fish is often expensive. Tuna in a can is a wonderful alternative to create meals with. Make sure to rinse water-packed tuna. Remember to also ask your fish monger what the 'catch of the day' is as these tend to be less expensive than the other cuts.

Strategy Five:

Remember fruits and vegetables! Frozen fruits and veggies are often half the price of fresh. Frozen foods have an exceptionally long shelf life when kept in freezer. Also, you can buy frozen fruits and veggies in bulk to get more of a discount. Fruits and veggies are expensive out of season, but frozen choices are nutrient dense and most are considered super foods. For example, frozen peas and carrots clearly can be just as healthy, if not more healthy than the fresh produce that has hung around in the supermarket food distribution chains for a week. Why? Because they are flash frozen. Frozen fruits and vegetables also save time as they are prepared for use. You can also purchase fresh in-season fruits and veggies and then freeze them.

Strategy Six:

Buy Bulk. It is always a good idea to buy non-perishable items, such as dried beans, grains, and canned foods, in bulk.

Strategy Seven:

Buy Generic Food. Buy the store brands to eat healthier on the cheap. Choose raw foods like brown rice, whole grain pasta, eggs, milk, cottage cheese, frozen fruits and veggies. This will save you money on packaging & advertising.

Remember, healthy eating habits will save you money in the long run by preventing the costly effects of ill health.

Are You Worried About Hair Loss?

By
hairloss,

If you are worried about hair loss you are not alone. In fact, I felt the same way over a decade ago and can totally relate. The good news, for me at least, is I was able to halt and then reverse my hair loss after a few years of costly trial and error. The bad news for you is that there is a great deal of misleading information out there combined with false hope promises that can leave the rapidly balding man or woman with nothing but a shower drain filled with scalp hair and an empty wallet.

Note: There is also the concern that after years of failed searching the amount of hair lost may have become so great that hair transplant surgery could be the only realistic option.

In this article I will do my best to provide individuals who are worried about losing their hair with at least some actionable information they can use to halt, and possibly reverse, the balding they are experiencing. So on that note why don't we get started.

First, minoxidil infused products may not be the answer. While we typically think modern medicine has all the answers when it comes to reversing hair loss this is simply not the case. According to information straight out of the popular minoxidil infused product information packet these products are not intended for frontal baldness or a receding hairline. The very next paragraph is adjacent to a few diagrams and states that if the hair loss is significant (the diagrams are showing about 2 percent scalp balding) these types of products may not work. Additionally, new hair re-growth will only be achieved in one out of ten instances.

What does all this mean?

What it means is that pharmaceutical grade products sold for hair loss and hair re-growth may not produce very good results for the vast majority of those trying to reverse balding or thinning hair.

So where do I go from here?

Understanding the crux of the problem is perhaps the most important aspect in effectively treating the most common types of balding and thinning hair. This of course is male or female pattern balding and the root cause of these two similar conditions is the unwanted accumulation of the androgen hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone) on tens of thousands of hair follicle located just below the scalp line.

If you cannot block, or at least slow, the production of DHT you will be fighting a losing battle over time. You should also know that if you have any bald areas already these areas are made up of thousands of dead hair follicles. Growing decent looking hair here will be a lot like trying to grow a garden in the middle of a desert. Needless to say this will not be an easy task requiring just the right combination of product ingredients and tenacity.

How can I block DHT?

There are a number of herbal or homeopathic remedies in this area of health and beauty that work pretty well. Most contain at least one of the following ingredients: saw palmetto, nettle root, kudzu extract, the Chinese herb fo-ti, or the B vitamin biotin. My personal experience tells me that when any of these ingredients are used singularly the results are poor. On the other hand, when used in combination they can be quite effective.

Boost your result with a topical application?

Once again my experience tells me that not all topical application work but a good rule of thumb is to look for natural topical formulas containing chamomile essential oil, rosemary essential oil, sage essential oil, or possibly avocado oil. There are a few others as well such as peppermint oil and jojoba oil that are somewhat less effective but could be worth trying if everything else has failed. Additionally, tea tree oil has produced good results for some but it is somewhat harsh if not diluted, or washed out in less than a half hour. If you are planning to use pure tea tree oil on your scalp getting how-to advice from a certified herbalist could be worth considering.

Hopefully the information above will help at least a few people avoid the pitfalls involved when trying to find effective hair re-growth solutions. Good luck to all.

Autumn Hair Loss - Don't Worry, It's Natural

By
hairloss,

Like dead leaves, seasonal hair loss returns every year, between the end of August and the start of November. It doesn't last more than 4 to 6 weeks, but that is enough to affect the morale, just as the summer holidays are ending. For many people, beginning of the season hair loss goes unnoticed. For others, it can lead to hair loss that is 3 to 4 times greater than during the rest of the year.

This pattern of hair loss though is thought to be evolutionary, this is because the body holds on to hair to protect the scalp against the summer's midday sun. In the summer and spring, sun rays increase the secretion of the hormones that regulate the hairs growth. This causes a reaction similar to plants accelerated growth during the months when the weather is hot. We have greater hair loss in September, as hair has reached the end of this cycle. This hair loss however nothing to worry about: after a few weeks, everything should return to normal: the hair loss should progressively decrease, and then resume to normal.

So, should the loss be treated, or is it best to just patiently wait for end of the storm? It all depends on the state of your hair. If your hair is already tending to lose in density, it is essential to follow a supporting treatment, and it is better to begin that treatment before the loss totally settles in.

In a study published in the journal Dermatology, the scientists followed more than 800 healthy women over six years and found that they lost the most hair in the autumn months.

Even though seasonal hair loss is normal, seasonal hair loss is not the only cause of unexpected hair loss.
'Hair is an incredibly sensitive barometer,' says Glenn Lyons, consultant trichologist at the Philip Kingsley clinic, London.

'Hair cells are the second-fastest produced cells in the body (after bone marrow), so hair is often the first thing to suffer from any bodily upset. It can even forewarn you when there are no other symptoms of illness.'
That's because we don't need our hair for survival, so if it's a choice between your hair growing or keeping blood going to the vital organs, the former will suffer, explains Dr Hugh Rushton, honorary senior lecturer in trichological sciences at the University of Portsmouth.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of women - and some men - suffer from unexpected hair loss.
`You shouldn't shampoo your hair too frequently or aggressively out of worry about having an oily scalp,` said Nagaoki Wakisaka, head doctor and director of Wakisaka Clinic Osaka, a clinic specializing in hair treatments in Osaka. "[Too much shampooing] reduces the outermost layer on skin on the scalp and reduces its ability to protect the layers underneath."

When checking his patients' scalps, Wakisaka said he often finds damage due to aggressive shampooing.
To help reduce scalp damage caused by shampooing, Wakisaka recommends washing one's hair with the pads of the fingers instead of the fingertips. When shampooing, use the pads of the fingers to massage the scalp and keep the upper arms close to the torso to reduce the amount of force applied to the scalp.
The frequency of shampooing also is important.

Recently, many shampoos advertise how well they clean the hair, but products that contain surfactants to remove dirt affect the scalp's hydrolipid film, and it takes 24 hours for this film to return to normal.
Additives in water such as chlorine or water hardness also have a direct effect on the health of scalp and the hydrolipid film. Installing a shower filter to remove hardness and chlorine will support a healthy scalp that maintains it's natural oils.

People with hair or scalps that easily become smelly or oily can shampoo every day, but otherwise, once every few days is enough, Wakisaka said.

Massaging the scalp before shampooing can effectively stimulate blood flow to the area and help keep it soft. The outermost skin layer on the scalp is easily damaged when wet, so scalp massages should be performed when the skin is dry.

When looking for the perfect shower filter to remove hardness and chemicals which effect the health of your scalp. In the UK I would recommend a shower water filter from PureShowers.co.uk because their products provide a high level of filtration at an economical price.

Hair Loss Solutions for Men

By
hairloss,

Hair loss according to Wikipedia is a loss of hair from the head or body. It can also be referred to as Baldness.

Losing one's hair is far from being a modern concern, but premature balding, say trichologists is turning out to be more of a trend than rarity. And the way we live our lives has more to do with it than genes or plain bad luck.

It's official. Men are inching towards baldness as early as in their 20s, and that's a leap from our fathers' generation that hoped to walk into their 40s with a full crop of hair.

In this era, there are lots of things that can cause a man to begin losing his hair suddenly: The Swedish hair specialist Dr Fred Zuli and Italian scientist Dr Falvio Ferrari, who were in Mumbai for a discussion on hair growth technology, put it down to four enemies: stress, vices, pollution and poor nutrition.

1. Stress: As a reaction to an incident of extreme mental or physical stress, the body typically sheds hair after a gap of three months. For instance, when one loses a loved one or one is caring for an aged parent, the physical and emotional stress one undergoes results to hair loss. Dr Ferrari squarely puts the blame on stress.
Any Simple lifestyle changes that affects the body such as not eating as at when due, stress at ones working place will have untold impacts on the strands of hair and you know that the strands of hairs are made up of minerals.

2. Male Hormone-Male Pattern Baldness: The male pattern baldness (MPB) form of androgenetic alopecia accounts for more than 95% of hair loss in men. By age 35, two-thirds of American men will have some degree of appreciable hair loss and by age 60 approximately 85% of men have significantly thinning hair. About 25% of men who suffer from male pattern baldness begin the painful process before they reach 21.

3. Vices: There are some life styles and practices some of the men indulge in which causes them to loss hairs. For instance, Heat and Hot oil treatments or Chemicals weaken the hair and so you find out that most men who are in the habit of styling their hairs regularly (like you see most wrestlers) falls victim of hair loss.
