Best Supplements to Prevent and Reverse Hair Loss

By Freya Anya

hairloss,

Many men have issues with hair loss but few know that it is not necessarily something that is "unfixable." There are many supplements that slow down the rate if not completely stop and reverse hair loss. Important supplements include, Vitamin D3, Silica, Gotu Kola and Inositol.

Vitamin D3 - It seems that the major vitamin for helping prevent hair loss is vitamin D. Vitamin D3 has usually been created naturally in the body by absorbing sunlight through the skin. In modern days, with pollution, working indoors and skin cancer fears resulting in people using sunscreen or covering their bodies most people are not getting anywhere near enough Vitamin D. Asking your doctor for a blood test to test for 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D is the easiest way to find out if you are deficient. If so, taking a Vitamin D3 supplement is the best solution and may help with many things including hair loss.

Inositol is part of the group known as B vitamin. When tested on laboratory animals, diets that were lacking in Inositol caused baldness. When Inositol was fed to the animals, hair started growing. Interesting to note was that male animals lost hair at double the rate of females suggesting that males may need higher Inositol intake than females.

Gotu Kola - Insufficient nutrient and mineral uptake to the scalp is one cause of hair loss. Gotu Kola is known to increase circulation to all areas of the body including the scalp. Anecdotal reports have said that this supplement increases hair growth and the thickness of the hair itself.

Silica - Silica is said to reduce or prevent hair loss. Eating a diet that is rich in green, leafy vegetables, especially sea vegetables, are sources for this mineral. Silica supplements can also be taken.

Hair Loss Remedy - Vitamins, Minerals and Natural Supplements For Hair Loss - Nurse's Report

By Helen Hecker

hairloss,

Hair Loss Remedy - Vitamins, Minerals and Natural Supplements For Hair Loss - Nurse's Report

Hair loss is also known as alopaecia, alopecia and baldness that happens in men, women and children. Hair loss refers to the loss of hair due to an increase in the rate of hair falling out and its not being replaced by new hair growth. Seeking natural treatment is the best remedy and vitamins, minerals and other supplements may or may not be taken safely as a hair loss solution. Many of the hair loss drugs on the market today require a daily dose for a lifetime. Besides being expensive, they all come with side effects and the benefits may not outweigh the risks.

It's important to get diagnosed and know what is causing your hair loss. If you're an older man, chances are it may be male pattern baldness. You can also have your testosterone levels checked to see if they may be implicated. Decreasing them may not be possible though or advisable.

If the hair follicles are still alive and functioning then it may be worth a try to take some supplements that you may be missing in your diet to help stop losing your hair. Two things to remember though - a natural healthy diet of living foods (raw foods - fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds) and lots of them is the best approach; wherein you have plenty of vitamins, minerals and other phytonutrients naturally available to help you grow your hair back and return yourself to your optimum state - it's the best hair loss diet.

Secondly, it's not known if vitamins, minerals and other supplements work if they're not working in conjunction with nature's natural chemicals - those that are a part of the living foods that the vitamins and minerals are also a part of. And the quality of the supplements is important also.

Cheap supplements may not be of the best quality and may not do you any good and may do you more harm as your body needs to get rid of them.

Keeping this all in mind I'm going to list the vitamins and minerals that are reported to be the best for enhancing or stimulating hair growth, again if the hair follicles are still alive. Make sure to get advice from your hair loss doctor or naturopathic doctor before you start taking any supplements. Some supplements can be harmful if you're taking certain drugs or medications for example.

Take the following information with a grain of salt. New studies and research come out often and any new study or report can refute what has been reported in the past.

First of all the amino acids, arginine, cysteine, lysine and tyrosine, are used in hair loss treatment.
Arginine deficiency has been reported as one reason for hair loss.

Cysteine at dosages of 1,000 mg. to 2,000 mg. per day has been reported to spur hair growth and help stop hair loss. It's supposed to help prevent free radical damage to the hair follicles. Some reports show that cysteine causes a noticeable improvement in hair growth. Eight percent of human hair is made up of cysteine. Many people who have thin or slow growing hair have reported they've noticed considerable improvement in their hair growth when they used 3,000 mg. to 5,000 mg. of cysteine per day.

Lysine deficiency can result in hair loss. Lysine is often used for herpes-related infections or prevention.
Tyrosine - when hair loss is caused by a low thyroid condition, called hypothyroid, tyrosine has been known to alleviate it.

Other supplements -

Enzymes in the form of superoxide dismutase (SOD) are supposed to decrease hair loss by inhibiting superoxide free radicals on nitric oxide.

A linoleic acid deficiency may result in hair loss, research suggests.

Minerals -

The important minerals to consider are copper, iron, silicon and zinc. Minerals need to be in balance with each other. Too much of one mineral in some cases can cause an imbalance in another. Make sure to get help from an informed health professional.

Copper can help stimulate hair growth if a copper deficiency is present and is involved in the prevention and possibly treatment of hair loss. Too much copper can actually cause hair loss. I have wondered whether the copper bracelets that used to be in vogue and may still be, for arthritis, would be worth a try.

Recently there have been good studies on iron deficiency as a possible cause of hair loss. Taking iron supplements is not a good idea though. Getting iron naturally in food would be a better choice. Too much iron can cause some serious health problems.

Potassium deficiency can be a cause of hair loss it's thought.

Silicon is supposed to be able to stimulate hair growth. Silicon is present in cucumbers among other foods.
Early or premature hair loss may be a result of zinc deficiency so says some research. Again zinc can cause hair loss.

The sulfuric compound methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) may help hair growth due to its sulfur content.
Vitamins -

Many vitamins may be involved in hair loss. Research suggests that hair loss or hair growth may be a result of deficiencies of these vitamins - biotin, folic acid, inositol and PABA (para aminobenzoic acid) and PABA may help to prevent hair loss due to its antioxidant properties.

The nicotinic acid form of vitamin B3, which is applied to the scalp, may help to improve blood circulation to the scalp (and may help stop the loss of hair) - you must have live hair follicles present. The suggested dose has been about 35 mg. of nicotinic acid daily.

Vitamin B5 deficiency causes hair loss in animals but hasn't been proven in humans.

Vitamin C may help hair growth by improving the circulation of blood to the scalp.

Taking too much vitamin A can cause temporary and reversible hair loss it's reported.

These are the vitamins and minerals and other supplements that have been researched, reviewed, studied or reported on in various medical journals. Before starting any hair loss treatment or remedy to help stimulate your living hair follicles and/or to prevent further loss, make sure you see your doctor first. If your hair follicles are not alive than it is unknown today what will help them short of hair transplant. Some cases of hair loss are reversed once the cause is known. Some cannot be reversed with what we know today. And be patient for whatever method you may decide to use.

Vital Hair Supplements To Restore Hair Loss

By Umesh Kumar M

hairloss,

If you are losing hair at a fast pace then chances are that your friends have recommended you to use hair supplements to prevent hair loss. This is mainly because a large number of people rely on the vitamins and mineral to treat baldness, instead of opting for a hair transplant surgery. If you have already tried the prescription drugs, without much result then the problem is deeper than what you see. Many times our body lacks the important nutrients and this takes a toll on our overall health and the hair loss is an indication that your body needs care.

If you look around, you will find a plethora of hair supplements available in the market to treat hair loss. There are several popular products and brands that bank on the minerals, vitamins and other herbal sources to restore hair loss. Although many balding individuals put their hopes on these alternative treatments, the question is - are hair supplements effective in treating baldness? If yes, what are the vital supplements that you must take to treat the condition?

When Do You Need Hair Supplements?

You shouldn't start taking supplements only because a friend or family member told you to do so. Instead, you should spend some time analyzing your condition and decide for yourself. If you are experiencing Alopecia Areata or Male Pattern Baldness then consuming hair supplements alone will not do any good. These conditions are usually caused by a combination of several other factors such as emotional stress, underlying illnesses, poor blood circulation, nutritional deficiencies, physical stress, post surgery, and hormonal imbalances.

These health conditions may often cause physical health, and that will ultimately deplete the vital nutrients from the body. Deficiency or a lack of sufficient nutrients may directly affect the growth of your hair follicles. If you are seeking supplements to improve the nutritional deficiencies inside your body then you must go for it. Here are some of the top supplements that you may take to prevent hair loss problems:

Vitamin B Complex:

This refers to the family of vitamin Bs and the sub vitamins that are responsible for maintaining the major body functions. It also plays an important role in promoting the growth and converting food to energy. Most of the B vitamins are known to have great effects on the health of your hair, and they are regarded as the best supplements to prevent baldness.

Vitamin A:

It is basically derived from a lipid soluble compound group which plays an important role in cell differentiation, and maintaining the healthy function of immune system. Vitamin A also acts as an effective antioxidant which aids in protecting the hair follicles from any free radical damage.

Vitamin E:

There are several benefits of Vitamin E which makes it imperative for you to pay attention to it. From prevention of blood clots to improving blood circulation, this supplement works like a fantastic primary antioxidant. Besides that, Vitamin E is also beneficial for the overall health of your skin and hair.

Omega 3 & 6:

Omega 3 & 6 are the two vital essential fatty acids required by the body to function properly. They are considered essential because the body cannot manufacture them, but they are very important for survival. Maintaining the right balance of these nutrients is important to regulate the various body functions and preserving the cell growth.

Amino Acids:

These are the essential acid groups required for sustaining life. This is primarily a principal building protein material that is required for maintenance, normal growth, and repair. There are over 20 different kinds of amino acids available in the body, out of which 8 are vital for adults. The essential amino acids for healthy hair growth are Cysteine and Methionine.

PABA:

PABA or para-aminobenzoic is an organic compound which is known to have healthy effects on the hair. Several reports say that PABA can aid in restoring grey hair problems, and also help in boosting hair growth. There are also some contradicting reports which say that PABA doesn't have much influence on hair.

MSM:

Known as a fabulous nutrient, MSM is basically a water soluble compound which is present in the fluids of all living organisms. The scientific studies have proved that MSM can prove to be highly beneficial for your hair. It is a fantastic source of sulphur, required for the creation of keratin, the primary components used for your hair fibers and nails.

Essential Minerals:

Some of the vital minerals that can help prevent hair loss are copper, selenium, zinc, iron, and silica. Besides supplementing your body with these vitamins, you should also consider taking these minerals to maintain the right balance and regrow your hair. However, before taking any vitamin and mineral supplements make sure you consult with your physician.

Hair Loss Supplements And Their Contribution To Hair Loss Treatment

By Michael Franchis
hairloss,

A regular hair cycle process involves an average of 50-150 falling hairs a day. This cycle is regarded as normal; in which 90% percent is in the stage of growing while the other 10% is resting. Hair regrowth has a normal cycle that can take an estimated period of 2-3 years. New hair grows after 3-4 months after the resting hairs have all fallen out.

Human hair is capable of experiencing this cycle if the hair follicles are healthy, solid, and consist of numbers to at least 150,000. This amount of hair is healthy enough to endure the hair loss treatment. In the end, the influence of age, volume of hair and cycle of hair growth determines the number of losing hairs per person.

The moment that the normal process of hair loss becomes excessive, then, it is time to initiate the necessary measures. A possible condition for this kind of situation can be linked to androgenic alopecia otherwise known as male pattern baldness. Considered to be genetic in origin, male pattern baldness is a trait that can progress to severe balding once it starts during the teenage years. A receding hairline and balding at the top of the head commonly characterizes the existence of male pattern baldness.

Considering this situation, multiple anti hair loss products and medications are now scattered throughout the market providing an effective treatment for the condition. Available in various forms and way of application, these products claim that the formulation and service they provide can avert or diminish the spreading of the balding process.

Hair loss supplements are a popular product line intended for hair balding. They are preferred by some people suffering from this condition as they contain natural ingredients that inhibit the balding process.

Examples of the natural ingredients combined with the formulation of natural hair thinning supplements include zinc, amino acids, vitamins and minerals, saw palmetto, grape seed extract, nettle and bay root, pygeum extract, lavender/bay essential oils and a lot more to mention. These ingredients are believed to be natural inhibitors of the DHT hormone, which is the primary cause of hair balding in men.

Viviscal, Hairomega, Nioxin, Procerin, HairTopia, Homosan Plus-2, Botanic Choice Vitamins, Hair Formula 37, Nexxus Vita Tress and Melanchor are some of the effective hair balding supplements that are medically-proven effective in treating hair thinning. Meditation is another natural remedy that can assist in hair loss treatment as it reduces stress and restores hormonal balance.

At this point in time that you had already known the functions of hair loss supplements in treating hair thinning, do you still want to know more? Well in that case, visit this anti hair balding treatment site. You can find in this site the effective solutions and products required to relieve the disorder.
